Wouldn't it be great if .....

... I could gain a place on the Body Opera Workshops which will take place in London very soon?  I've attached some info and a link on the links page of this blog.

I know I'm not a professional Bel Canto singer. I've quite a bit to do yet to get to that level.  I'm probably about 15- 20 years older than the other performers who will be attending.    But I believe I do know what Patrick Eakin Young, Direct of Opera-Erratica, is excited about and what he's trying to do.  I share his vision, I think.  I've spoken with a few people, and we agree that it would be great for me to attend and bring back techniques, observations etc. to our project.

In order to apply I need to provide a recording of me singing, a headshot, an artists c.v. and a paragraph about why I'd like to take part in the workshops.  I feel confident about the last item on the list but as for the rest, well I'll do my best.

I had great fun today recording Silent Noon, Lamento and Moonfall with Paul Comeau playing piano for me.  Working/playing with such a creative pianist was a rare pleasure and privilege.  Despite the fact I know I have technical things to improve upon in my singing, Paul's gave such a buzz, a thrill and I wish I had more opportunities to do it.  I know I have something to share and I'm sure the Body Out, Body Opera, improvisational, energetic, authentic, somatic, you name it, way is my way.  I may be 60 years old before I actually get it all together but I will keep trying.

It'll be a real damper if I'm not accepted for the workshop, even though I'll understand why, but just imagine what a boost it'll be for so many people if I manage to get to Bethnal Green and take part!  It would be a boost for Platform at UCF who are supporting the POWOW project, for Hall for Cornwall who have also supported us, and for the women who have taken part or wanted to but lived just too far away.  It would also be a boost for the academic staff who have supported my enquiry.

This is just the beginning of something deeply wanted, enjoyed and appreciated but those of us who have been lucky enough to start out on the journey of discovering the way.

Ah yes.  If I'm accepted, I'll be looking for somewhere affordable and comfortable to stay near Bethnal Green.  Does anyone know of somewhere?
