Good News
Today I received the great news that POWOW will benefit from some financial support from University College Falmouth Platform http://www.falmouth.ac.uk/1416/platform-54.html. The workshops will still need to be funded by the participants but if there is a shortfall in the numbers required to cover costs, the small pot of money will ensure I can pay the workshop leaders.
The Relief!
This is an enormous psychological and emotional relief! I have to apologise to UCF and Platform for being rather tense and 'teezy' as they say in Cornwall whilst waiting for this news as I suppose I didn't really believe that there was the will to support the project, which is my own enquiry into my practice - whether operatic material can be created from theatre improv and vocal productions techniques with bel canto singing being the last in the line of expression. It's embodied practice I'm told. The project also serves as a pilot to gauge the interest and needs of older women in this kind of artistic work. However, I heard delight in the voice of the person who delivered the news to me and I'd like to pass her delight on to all the women who have chosen to take part and anyone who has taken an interest in the nature our activity.
New Focus
I can now focus on helping shape the content and documentation of the workshops, my own artistic enquiry and development and a lot of reading into embodied practice.
Workshops in theatre improvisation and vocal production for older women wanting to discover or develop their practice. The workshops are managed by an older woman music and theatre graduate who is developing a new methodology in devising and performing sung dramatic material in company with and about contemporary older women.
