I'd like to thank Isobel King at Hall for Cornwall for her appreciation and support of POWOW. The Hall for Cornwall has donated the use of its Rehearsal Room for some of our workshops but as an adjacent space will be filled with energetic and vociferous young people and we may well need some quiet, I've only been able to take up one of the slots offered in the room. That will be on Wednesday 21st September.
At a time when most funding is aimed as supporting inclusive community projects and projects for young people, (and I'm glad that there is financial support for that work), older women's artistic development isn't really on anyone's agenda.
Some local funding sources aren't available to me/the project as I'm still in full time education. I suppose funders weren't imagining that a mature woman with a 5 page C.V. would be applying for funding to support a ground-breaking project whilst being a full time student. I didn't actually realise this was a ground-breaking project until I found nothing like it around the globe and, believe me, I have been asking and searching.
So, once again, it's of enormous psychological and artistic comfort to be supported in this way by Hall for Cornwall and I hope that, over time, the work of this project will build so that we may be able to take the methodology to more women and that we may have some satisfying new work to perform - one day.
Workshops in theatre improvisation and vocal production for older women wanting to discover or develop their practice. The workshops are managed by an older woman music and theatre graduate who is developing a new methodology in devising and performing sung dramatic material in company with and about contemporary older women.

Fantastic! So pleased to hear its all going well...wish I could take part in some way but am trying to get through this flu and have little time before University starts. It is very daunting for me at 43 to be doing the Creative Events Management course along with probably mostly very young students who will be younger than my own daughters!
ReplyDeleteIts me Christina Kyle by the way! dont want to create an account. X
ReplyDeleteHi Christina. I guessed it was you. No wonder few people post comments when Google seem to be forcing people to sign up for things. It's fine to post anonymously!
ReplyDeleteI need more women to sign up to take part in the project in order that it happens. I'm even thinking of offering a £5.00 observer option. What do you think of that?
I hope you enjoy your Creative Events Management course and that we can keep in touch. If you want to observe sessions for £5 let me know!
